100 years of upholstery

Very interesting project came across my bench recently. A small club chair. Not too noteworthy in and of itself, but when I cracked her open it was like time traveling. The first layer...

Ethan Allen style fall leaves

And then a faux quilt look

Most of this one had actually been removed but was a nice royal blue twill at one point.

This fabric is hard to tell from the picture but it's a faux cross stitch, in an interesting pastoral scene.

A bouquet of flowers and a butterfly! I am guessing at this point the fabric is from the early 1900's

And last but definitely not least, these sweet purple roses. I am hoping my friend Emily is making something fantastic with this piece as it was to hard to just throw it in the landfill.

Sadly, I had to remove all the other fabrics in order to rebuild the infa structure of this sweet historian. My customer chose this nice green and creme rose motif. Maybe it will be the start for the next hundred years of upholstery!

Blast from the past

A long time ago when I was just starting out I reupholstered this couch. This job was very intimidating. I fussed and fussed over the button tufting, and centering that pattern on the cushion. When it moved to it's new home recently in the west hills and suffered some damage, I was happy to come out and fix it up. I couldn't help but snap a few pics when I was done. I wish I could have taken pictures of the house too, with out seeming like a stalker. Is it weird to be jealous of a couch?

When I did this couch I worked in my garage, and it looked a little like this:

Not so conducive to picture taking ;) COLD in the winter and HOT in the summer. I'm a better off now, but wow I would love to look at this all day:

New Upholstery Vintage sectional
Originally uploaded by Found on Fremont

I had the best intentions a year or so ago when I posted my first blog. Then the reality of running a retail storefront and a blossoming upholstery business hit me. I am happy to announce that after quite a year, I have come out the other end with an amazing business partner, the shop has expanded, and I now have time to work on upholstery and enjoy it. I vow to take pictures of all the fun projects, they are numerous! Here's a little sectional in grey wool that I really wanted to keep for myself. I had these babies for 8 years after purchasing the tattered pair for $1..........yep that's right $1.00! I moved them a total of 6 times before I got around to upholstering them but I always new they would be SWEET!

Genius! Upholstery Blog!

I was referred to this Blog and a light bulb went on! Instead of fretting about a website I can make a blog that shows past, present, and future Ruby Cushion upholstery projects! Why is it that sometimes there is a road block in our brains as big as the Hoover Dam? Glad I finally had the AH HAH moment! Looking forward to sharing my upholstery with the world.
